Sharks in Iquique (onion news)

Everybody knows that Iquique has the best beaches in the country, and it is famous for aquatic sports like surfing, body boarding, and swimming, but the people who play these sports are now in extreme danger.

A man who body boards went to Cavancha Beach today at 9 o`clock in the morning. He saw a strange shape that was leaving a slow shadow in the water. Before he decided to dive in, he got closer to see if it was something unnatural or only a figment of his imagination, when suddenly he couldn`t believe what his eyes were seeing.
That shadow was a shark. A big and frightening shark swimming slowly like the king of the sea, waiting patiently for its breakfast.

Quickly he started shouting... a shark! a shark! and all the people over the place went closer to see what was happening, in that minute a boy that was entering to the water ran to the shore, saving his life. Meanwhile the first boy went to call the coast guard to warn them about what was happening.
They arrived to the place within a minute with the safety equipment in order to evaluate the issue. They spent all day trying to find a way to catch the shark.

However, they couldn`t catch it. So now there is a red alert for the entire population. Beaches of all over the city are closed, and the news is constantly giving us information about the work that the navy is doing to find the shark, but no body knows when the animal will be found.
Authorities believe the alert is true because of the large number of people who saw it, even though they have no idea where it went. Now they recommend to mantain the alert and to take care of ourselves by not going to the beach... and that`s for sure! I think no one would want to go to the beach in these circumstances, if you want to live of course.

Finally the complete population is waiting for breaking news telling us that the shark has already been caught, but what happens if they don`t catch it, will we waiting forever, or in a year will the people forget this and will they begin going to the beach again?, I wouldn`t do that, I think that I would never swim in a beach again during my entire life.

What happens with tourism?. Our city is famous for its beautiful beaches. During summers people from different cities and countries come here only to enjoy the beach, but our beach changed because now we have a dangerous guest swimming around and living in the sea. So you decide if you want to wait, or if you want to enjoy a new summer in Iquique, with a new guest.
It`s up to you!

This is such an exaggeration. How do you know the shark the surfer saw was waiting for breakfast? And how do you know the breakfast was going to be a person? Sharks don't eat people! They rarely attack and when they do its by mistake. Trying to catch the shark will not help...in fact they will probably kill many sharks needlessly, not finding the exact one. Shark populations are threatened worldwide and the dangers they pose to humans are myths. Only 4-6 people die each year worldwide from shark attacks. The tourists in Iquique are much more likely to be hurt or killed in a car accident on the way to the beach.
